Kampuh Welding Indonesia continues to expand its network and enhance the quality of its training programs by collaborating with the Japan Welding Engineering Society (JWES), a professional welding organization from Japan. The growing demand for skilled welders in Japan has prompted JWES to explore professional welder certification programs outside Japan, including a partnership with the Kampuh Welding Indonesia International Welding Training Center in Surabaya.
A total of 25 welders from various regions in Indonesia participated in the Japan Industrial Standards (JIS) certification program. The certification process, which lasted approximately four days, was directly supervised by two examiners from JWES Japan—Ishikawa Masami and Matsubara Shinichi—along with one instructor, Kaneko Yasuyoshi. The certification event was also attended by JWES Managing Director (Executive Director) Wataru Mizunuma, President Director of Kampuh Welding Indonesia Ir. Moch. Moenir, and President Director of Kampuh Japan Doi Hirofumi, who ensured that the entire process was conducted in accordance with official procedures.
During the visit, the JWES delegation toured Kampuh’s training facilities, including the theory classrooms, practical workshops, and materials testing laboratories. The JWES representatives expressed their appreciation for Kampuh’s readiness and high training standards, noting that “such standards hold great potential as a bridge for international training cooperation.”
Currently, at least 90% of Japan’s domestic manufacturing workforce is of senior age due to the country’s declining birth rate. Japan is also opening up employment opportunities in the manufacturing and construction sectors under the Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) program. The presence of JWES in Indonesia is expected to further expand access for Indonesian workers to employment opportunities in Japan’s shipbuilding and heavy industries, which are currently experiencing a shortage of skilled welding professionals.
